Being single in today’s world is a challenge for many Christians. There’s always pressure to move on to the next stage of life – getting married. Because of that, too many Christian singles don’t get to really appreciate the stage that they’re in and what it means for them on their way through life.
The pressure is very real. There’s external pressure, brought on by seeing others get married, being advised to get married, especially in cultures or churches where marrying early is greatly encouraged.
And of course, there’s always the notion of how you look to others when you’re a certain age and it doesn’t look like you’re getting married anytime soon.
Then there’s internal pressure – our own emotions and desires to be married, our personal goals and expectations for how our lives should progress, which often include some estimation of when we should have been married, and how companionship and relationship, for some people, is a path to feeling complete.
